A two-part housing with cosmetic A-surfaces, snap features and molded-in bosses, on a timeline where the mold decision had already slipped once. The customer needed more than a mold quote — they needed confidence that design review, steel machining, fitting and trial shots would not each become a separate vendor negotiation with a separate queue.
Mold design ran DFM with the customer's mechanical team first: draft angles adjusted on the snap features, gate location moved to pull the weld line off the cosmetic face, and cooling re-routed around the deepest boss. Cores and cavities were cut in-house and finished to the ±0.002 mm grade with grinding and EDM — the fitting-and-polish step that decides how the mold runs was done by the same team that cut the steel. T0 shots on our own press revealed a predictable short-fill at the deep boss; a venting tweak at the parting line resolved it. T1 samples came off the press with dimensions reported against the drawing.
T1 samples were approved without rework and the mold released for production molding — which also happens in-house, on the same press class, under the same roof. The customer's words on the follow-up order: the first supplier who came back with questions before quoting, and the only one whose T1 didn't start a correction loop. That is precisely the outcome a single-roof workflow exists to produce.
